I am convinced that the Malaga of 2016 will be very different to the city we know today. The society of knowledge will be highly developed and Malaga will play an important role within this new society based on the transformation effected by science and technology on everyday life.
Cities are key players in this global transformation, and their progress and development will depend on their international projection and worldwide profile.
With the date in question still ten years away, Malaga is already getting ready for the big event. The development and expansion of the Andalusian Technology Park (PTA) will prove excellent tools in the achievement of these goals.
The PTA already provides the city with a technological showcase that is viewed by the rest of the world. In fact, Malaga is one of the best models in the world of a city that has developed a local innovation system in a region lacking in technological development, as well as constituting a fine example of how to head international, domestic and regional networks of science and technology parks.
In the years to come, the PTA will lead the way towards this society of knowledge, drawing the whole of Malaga society in its wake and magnifying the city's role within the network of highly-developed cities.
Therefore, the year 2016 brings an opportunity to support Malaga's bid to become European Capital of Culture, and it should also provide an excuse to advance the development of the society of knowledge and increase the world's awareness of Malaga.
