Malaga welcomes 'Communicating
the Museum' with the theme
“Networking” in 2009

   > Comunicado de prensa
11 de Marzo 2009

After Paris, Turin, Valencia, Rotterdam, Madrid and Venice, Malaga, the candidate city for European City of Culture 2016 - will welcome the 9th Communicating the Musuem conference, 24-27 June 2009. The industry's leading event for museum communication, Communicating the Museum brings together each year an international audience of cultural institutions from 5 continents including the most dynamique and prestigious names. 270 participants in 2008 came to exchange and learn about the rapid and constant evolutions of museum communication.

CTM 2009 will focus on the theme: “Personal and Digital Networking”. New methods and types of networking will be presented and discussed, at the heart of a programme which puts the accent on the interactivity of the participants, keynote speeches, case studies, 'Chuchotage' which calls on the collective intelligence of the audience and people's personal experiences. The various sessions will take place in the heart of some of Malaga's most famous and stunning cultural sites (CAC, Casa Natal de Picasso, Museum of Heritage etc). The Gala Dinner will be held in the Alcazaba fortress, a private concert will be given in the Maria Cristina auditorium, to celebrate its restoration, as well as a private event at the Museo Picasso which will ensure participants can put immediately into practice their networking skills, networking being one of the primary objectives of the conference.

In June 2008 at the Doges' Palace in Venice, Communicating the Museum brought together 270 professionals from the world of museum communication and marketing, principally directors, heads of departments and senior managers, from 29 different countries. The participants came primarily from the anglo-saxon sphere (Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK and USA) and Europe was also strongly represented (the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy etc) and for the first time, a strongly represented delegation came from the Gulf. Organised with the support of the Ayuntamiento de Malaga, Communicating the Museum is sponsored by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux (France), Antenna Audio, Thalys International and the bank, Unicaja. The Art Newspaper is the media partner for Communicating the Museum and has been so since 2004.
