“Audiences; keeping the old, finding the new”

'Don't miss the Communicating the Museum conference this June in the beautiful city of Vienna. Our theme  for our tenth anniversary year is 'Audiences: Keeping the Old, Finding the New'. We are going back to the fundamentals of museum communications strategies and have designed a dynamic programme of speakers, workshops and practical sessions to help you build audience and keep your profile high.'

Dear Colleagues

At the beginning of 2010, I received many requests from both new and past delegates from all over the world wishing to attend the 2010 conference. After many hesitations, I decided to organise the Communicating the Museum conference despite the crisis. It is our 10th anniversary which is an important step for Agenda. Furthermore, we have the support of the most prestigious art organisations in Vienna to welcome us : The Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Albertina and the Mumok. This is very promising.

This year, we want to welcome many new art organisations such as theatres, art centers, biennales, festivals, and heritage venues which share the same issues about communication as museums. By changing the format of the conference, we have managed to lower the registration fee by 20% in order to encourage many more art organisations, both large and small, to join. We have also introduced a special fee for curators.

The theme agreed by our committee is 'Audiences : Keeping the old, Finding the new', a very inspiring topic. We will review the fundamentals of the past 10 years of communication for art organisations, analyse trends and best practices, and look ahead to the future. Therefore it is challenging, very exciting and will be a very successful conference. Come to Vienna this summer. We all look forward to seeing you.
