Porta della Carta - Doges' Palace | We are proud to announce that Venice, Italy, will be our host for 2008.
The wonderful and magic city of Venice makes a big impact on all its visitors and is therefore the perfect city to host this year's conference with it's theme "Communicating Strategies: How to make an impact".
We are delighted to be welcomed in the most prestigious and world famous venues, such as Palazzo Ducale, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Palazzo Grassi, Ca'Rezzonico, plus our own island, San Servolo, for the working of part of the conference!
Damien Whitmore, Director of Public Programmes at the Victoria and Albert Museum, formally takes on the role of President of the Communicating the Museum conference. Jennifer Francis, Head of Press and Marketing at the Royal Academy will be this year's Chair of the Communicating the Museum conference.

"Communication Strategies: How to make an impact"
The theme of the 8th Communicating the Museum conference will cover Audience Development and Research, Advertising, Programming, New Media and more. How to make an impact is vital for any organisation building a smart communication strategy and is the key to any organisation's success - whether it be a strategy for the long or the short term, or for a permanent collection or temporary exhibition. International speakers coming from both inside and outside the museum sector will share their ideas and give inspiration.
Just some of the things you will learn in Venice:
- the best practices from inside and outside the museum industry to help you explore ways to plan your strategies for the future.
- practical tools to help you implement or improve the strategies of your organisation
- how to be create a brief, from start to finish and how to evaluate your strategies
The conference programme will deliver innovative and proven ways of strategy planning from fellow museum colleagues plus new approaches from outside industries
New in 2008:
- "Get connected" - As soon as you have registered, you will be able to get in contact with fellow participants, using our "Get Connected" inter-participant email service. This will allow you to start networking long before the opening of the conference - make appointments in advance of the event and continue contact afterwards
- More social events - More than 10 social events will be organised during the conference to help you network, share and extend your contacts
- Blog - A dedicated blog will also allow you to raise questions, exchange ideas and share views with other professionals
I look forward to welcoming past and new delegates from all over the world to Venice in June 08.
